Again, Bill Gates makes a promise for the Longhorn release...this time he states a more generous deadline, the late 2006. This is more than 2 years from now.
Even if Microsoft will manage to stick to the schedule, this means more than 5 years between Windows XP and Longhorn. Plus, in order to stick to the deadline, Microsoft addmited some functionality features will be cut-off from the initial plan.
Hopefully, Linux will have some good releases until 2006. Apple is scheduled to release Tiger in late 2005, so by the time Longhorn hits the market, the competition will be tough.
