About 24% of the people in Bucharest went yesterday to vote for the new mayor. The elections were due as Traian Basescu, elected in 2004 as Bucharest Mayor, has become president of Romania.
Adriean Videanu won yesterday, with about 53%, the place for being the mayor of Bucharest. His competitor, Marian Vanghelie, has been left far behind, having only about 30% of the votes.
Adriean Videanu represents the D.A. alliance in Romania and is seen as the natural succesor Basescu should have for the place of mayor of Bucharest.
You can find out more about Adriean Videanu
HERE (romanian only).
The vote yerterday is considered to be one of the lowest in terms of presence of the population, with only 24% of the population comming to express their vote. I believe this reflects not necessarly the fact that people couldn't decide, they just didn't care. Which might be even worse.
Anywayz, it can easily be seen that the interest has been low throughout the entire political class, as none of the cadidates even bother to ask for an exit-poll.
