France Telecom agreed on Thursday to pay $523 million to raise its stake in Orange Romania, adding to the Eastward rush by West European telecommunications companies seeking faster growth.
France Telecom will increase its holding in the Orange unit to 96.6 percent from 73.3 percent in a transaction valuing the Romanian operator at about $2.2 billion, the company said. Orange Romania has a market share of 48 percent, and its sales rose 47 percent last year.
